Privacy Policy

1. What we collect

Information you give us directly:

• Your email address and password (for your account).
• Your display name, date of birth (used only to confirm you're 18+, never shown to others), bio, interests, and profile photo.
• Your birthday month and day, if you choose to add it, so Village members can send you a birthday Pick-Me-Up.
• Content you create in the app - mood check-ins, Pick-Me-Ups, Outings you plan, and similar.

Information we collect automatically:

• Your device's precise location, but only in the exact moment you generate or redeem a real-world verification code. We never track your location in the background, and this location is never shown to any other user - see Section 3.

2. How we use it

We use your information to:

• Run your account and let you use Scavy's features.
• Show you compatible people on Discovery, based on shared interests.
• Confirm two people are actually together when verifying a connection.
• Keep the app safe - for example, investigating reports of abuse.

We do not sell your personal information to anyone.

3. Location, specifically

This gets its own section because it matters. Scavy's real-world verification works by briefly comparing two phones' GPS coordinates at the moment of verification. That comparison happens entirely on our server:

• Your raw coordinates are never sent to the other person, or shown anywhere in the app to anyone, including you.
• We don't track your location before or after that one moment, and there's no setting that makes us start.
• The database table that briefly stores this information cannot be read directly by any user, including via the app's own API - only a narrow, automated process can touch it, specifically to do the distance check.

4. Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to run Scavy, who can access data only as needed to provide their service to us:

• Supabase - hosts our database, handles login, and stores uploaded photos.
• Vercel - hosts the app itself.

We don't share your information with advertisers, and we don't currently use any third-party analytics or advertising trackers.

5. Your choices

• Edit anything - your bio, interests, photo, and birthday are editable anytime from your profile.
• Turn off Discovery - toggle "Discoverable by other Scavengers" off on your profile to stop appearing to new people, without deleting your account.
• Delete your account - from Account settings, at any time. This permanently removes your profile, photos, and associated activity from our systems. It can't be undone.

6. Children's privacy

Scavy is not intended for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we'll delete that account.

7. Changes to this policy

If we make a material change to how we handle your information, we'll ask you to review and accept the updated policy before you can keep using Scavy.
